Course objectives:
This course is designed to instil core surgical skills at the very start of a surgeon’s training by teaching the correct basic techniques used in surgery such as handling instruments, knot tying, core biopsy as well as wound management including wound debridement and drainage of abscess.

FY2, ST1 & ST2
Topics covered:
Day 1 covers: theatre gowning; basic instrument skills; knot tying, skin incision, suturing; wound management; diathermy
Day 2 covers: abdominal closure; haemostasis; anastomostatsis; fine tissue handling and an introduction to endoscopic surgery
