Where trainee critical care technologists enter the profession without a degree, they will follow a training programme (e.g. the degree on a part-time basis), attending college/university by day release or in block, to study for the qualifications relevant to their work. These programmes contain some units common to all specialisms but provide separate routes for audiology, cardiology, neurophysiology and respiratory physiology. Those entering as a trainee aiming to go through the degree on a part-time basis should ideally hold A’ levels, in science (biology, physics, chemistry).
