Typical University Entry Requirements
Health
Working directly with patients means that communicable diseases are an issue and before any clinical practice can commence you will be screened for HIV and Hepatitis B for example
Criminal Convictions
It is normal for all healthcare professionals to be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau or CRB
Examination Qualifications
3 A Levels including 2 A Levels in science (biology essential, + maths if possible) or
BTEC National Certificate in Science (MPPM) or
BTEC National Certificate in Science or
Advanced GNVQ or AVCE Science
Other academic qualifications offered as equivalence will be considered on an individual basis.
For mature students there is a range of qualifications that may be considered, depending on the University. Usually the Access to Health or Science, or an A level (science-related) are recommended pre-entry courses, although many Universities will consider other options such as professional qualifications. Telephone the university admissions tutor if you feel unsure.
Finally, to legally call yourself a Podiatrist in the UK you must be registered with the Health Professionals Council or HPC. Similarly, registration with The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists maybe required before you are considered for certain NHS positions.
